This is the speedy plug-n-play method to install, if you know what you're doing. If you need a more detailed approach, please use the full detailed installation instructions.
- Remove kit contents from box and unfurl wire leads. Disconnect vehicle battery ground [-] wire.
- Mount NOGOSWITCH using the two supplied black self tapping screws.
- Position the killswitch and run the connected blue and red leads to the NOGOSWITCH location.
- Bolt the horn down using an existing hole, or drill a hole if necessary. Connect a ground wire and use a star washer and self tapping screw to ground the horn. Then run the white horn lead to the NOGOSWITCH location. The leads at the horn can be connected in any order.
- Determine best location to tap into hot ignition wire be it prior to coil, fuel pump relay or ECU. Utilize existing terminal types of the system to avoid cutting into ignition or splice into it as needed. The supplied red ignition lead will need to be spliced into the ignition wire's source side. The supplied blue ignition lead will need to be spliced into the ignition's destination side. Now run the other ends to the NOGOSWITCH location.
- Connect all wires at the NOGOSWITCH location using the proper color coding. Ensure the black lead is grounded to the body/frame using short ground wire with star washer and self tapping screw.
- Reconnect the vehicle battery ground [-] wire, and test NOGOSWITCH functionality. Use a heat gun or lighter on heat shrink connections, and tuck the wires into existing harnesses to conceal wires.
Full Detailed Installation Instructions
Step #1
Survey, plan and preparation. Determine the various device locations in conjunction with a game plan that will allow for the most
clandestine installation. Map this out in your head, or make a picture with pen and paper.
more
- The NOGOSWITCH has two holes for mounting and can generally be mounted in the cab, under the dash, or in the engine compartment.
- The killswitch will need to mount within 9' of the NOGOSWITCH location. Additional killswitch leads can be purchased if you need more length.
- The ignition tie-in will need to occur within 7' of the NOGOSWITCH location. Additional ignition leads can be purchased if you need more length.
- The horn/device will need to mount within 6' of the NOGOSWITCH location. Additional horn/device leads can be purchased if you need more length.
- Both the NOGOWITCH and the horn/device have 1' ground leads that will need to connect to body metal or frame to provide a solid ground connection.
- IMPORTANT! Remove ground [-] wire from vehicle battery!
Now that you've got a basic game plan, you're ready to continue moving along.
Step #2
Mount the killswitch and run the leads. The specific location you choose is of utmost importance - take all the time you need.
Keep in mind that the killswitch leads to the NOGOSWITCH are limited to 9' unless you've opted to extend them.
more
- Position the killswitch - typically in the cab or under the dash in a hidden location. You might luck out and find a hole for the killswitch to snap into, or you may have to drill a 20mm hole. A stepped drill bit generally works best for drilling this type of hole. Remember, a car thief is going to be on the lookout for switches and toggles, so put some real thought into concealing your killswitch. Your overall security is only going to be as good as your switch camouflage, so make it count. The switch that comes with the kit is meant to get you up and running, but it's advised that you work to improve your switch location and technique as time and desire allow.
- Run killswitch leads through an opening in the firewall or cab all the way to where you'll be mounting the NOGOSWITCH. Utilize existing wiring harness entry/exit points and tuck the leads into an existing wire harness for maximum camouflage. Again, take extra care here to conceal the killswitch leads. You might run them underneath interior panelling, straight out and through the subframe, or maybe even conceal them inside some type of rubber hose that makes them have a vacuum tube appearance.
Bonus points - consider installing an additional bunk/decoy killswitch with wires to nowhere just to send a potential
car thief on a wild goose chase. Also, you can always install multiple killswitches in series if you want to double up or provide
yourself access in the cab for daily convenience, and then one in the back for long term parking.
Step #3
Mount the horn and run the lead. Ensure your horn location is less than 6' from your chosen NOGOSWITCH location.
more
- Most vehicle bodies and frames have numerous existing options for a horn bolt hole, but you may have to drill one if you can't make something work. If you have to drill a 6mm hole make sure you can reach the back side to allow for tightening the nut with the 10mm wrench or socket.
- Position the horn in the hole and tighten the horn nut using your 10mm wrench.
- Use a drill with phillips bit or phillips screwdriver, and one silver self tapping screw to install ground wire to horn. Make sure you put the silver screw through the ground loop terminal, and then position the star washer on after that - so that as you tighten down the screw the star washer will make a good ground connection with the body/frame. Use the 2mm drill bit to make a pilot hole if you need. We recommend using a phillips screwdriver to tighten the screw down the final few turns. The terminals are made from copper so they're a little bit soft - just be careful not to damage or break the ground terminal.
- Put the horn side of the ground lead on the horn. It doesn't matter which of the two terminals you connect to.
- Now connect the 6' horn lead to the other open terminal on the horn, and run it to your chosen NOGOSWITCH location.
Step #4
Tap into the ignition. If you're reading this and conducting the NOGOSWITCH installation, then you're already familiar with your
vehicle's ignition circuit and how best to tap into it. Find a suitable hot ignition wire to fusebox, coil, distributor, electric fuel pump
feed wire or relay. Ensure your ignition tie-in location is less than 7' from your chosen NOGOSWITCH location.
more
- In case you forgot in the first step... IMPORTANT! Remove ground [-] wire from vehicle battery! Do not touch the ignition circuit until this has been done.
- The "hot" wire is the one we're going to be using so that it diverts power that would normally flow to the ignition destination point. You don't necessarily have to cut into anything. You might opt to just tie into the line at an already existing junction point using the exact same type of terminals already on your vehicle. You might feel better about this, so that it keeps your original system totally intact in the instance you want to remove the NOGOSWITCH and return to your stock set up. For the sake of this tutorial, we'll tie into the hot wire leaving the fuel pump relay and heading toward the electric fuel pump on a modern EFI type vehicle. Splice this wire within that 7' range of the your chosen NOGOSWITCH location.
- Grab your NOGOSWITCH ignition leads (the red/blue color-coded wires) and use the ends that have the male spade connectors inserted. Remove those two male connectors and crimp them onto both ends of the hot wire you cut in the previous step.
- Now take the RED lead and connect it to the source side of the hot wire (coming out of the fuel pump relay).
- Now take the BLUE lead and connect it to the destination side of the hot wire (the one coming from the fuel pump itself).
- Run the other end of the ignition leads to your chosen NOGOSWITCH location. Try to utilize existing harness material as to maximize concealing these two important wires.
NOTE: cutting into or altering your stock ignition circuit may void car warranties, auto insurance contracts, or even violate emissions
laws and regulations in your locale. By installing NOGOSWITCH, you agree to accept full responsibility for any liability that may arise from the use of NOGOSWITCH,
and that you accept these terms and conditions along with any responsibility therein. Thank you for your understanding and your support.
Step #5
Mount the NOGOWSWITCH using the two black self tapping screws. If you cannot screw the NOGOSWITCH down, then consider using zip ties or
other means to fasten the device securely to the vehicle. Consider using any existing holes in the firewall or inner body paneling as well.
more
- If you can't utilize any existing holes, then use a drill and self tapping black screws. You may want to use a small 2mm pilot drill bit first if your mount location requires it. We recommend using a phillips screwdriver by hand to put the final turns on the screws. Don't overdo it as the NOGOSWITCH housing is made of plastic and can break if you were to apply too much pressure.
- Install the remaining ground strap lead using silver screw and star washer very near the NOGOSWITCH location.
- Hook up the other wires to the NOGOSWITCH using the wire leads' color codes after sliding on the heat shrink tubing (don't shrink it yet). The ignition leads will connect to the RED and BLUE wires using respective color code markings on the leads. The killswitch leads will connect to the GREEN and YELLOW wires using respective color code markings on the leads. The horn lead will connect to the WHITE wire. Finally, attach the short ground strap wire to the BLACK wire.
Step #6
Test operation and tidy up - make sure everything is properly concealed from crafty and industrious car thieves.
more
- IMPORTANT! Reconnect ground [-] wire to vehicle battery!
- Check operation of the switch by putting the key into the ignition and attempting to start your vehicle. If the killswitch is 'on' (toward the I symbol) then you should hear the horn and the engine will crank but never start. If the killswitch is 'off' (toward the O symbol) then your vehicle should start up as it normally would - ie. no horn sounds.
- We recommend using a heat gun, or lighter, to heat-shrink the various terminal connections at the NOGOSWITCH. The kit came with some additional heat-shrink wrap if you find it necessary or prefer to make a super solid and durable connection. Highly recommended, just DO NOT overdo it and/or melt your wiring or light the vehicle on fire!
- Tidy up any wires with some of the included zip ties, if necessary. Fold up any wire slack and tie off in a secure manner. Tuck wires into existing harnesses for best camouflage, or purchase some simliar-looking harness material to wrap your wires in so that everything would look as stock as possible to a potential car thief. Don't give them any reason to start poking around at any of the NOGOSWITCH related connections.
